Yes, it’s true, I fear that I may be in trouble with Feyma. It doesn’t really happen often, but I’m afraid that I have fallen in trouble with her. This particular incident has been building up for a number of years.
It’s all about shampoo. Shampoo and women, actually.
You see, about 4 or 5 years ago, one time when Feyma was going to the grocery store, I asked her to get me some Palmolive Shampoo. I was not a regular user of Palmolive, but I had tried it before. I liked it because it is very thick. Even if you put only a little on your hair, it was thick and would build up a nice lather. Also, they had a number of “flavors” of the stuff, and I liked the idea.
So, when Feyma went to the grocery store, she came back with a bottle of Palmolive for me. Since then, I’ve never heard the end of it.
End of what?
Well, ever since that day, Feyma has been accusing me of having a crush on KC Concepcion. For the initiated, KC Concepcion is an actress here in the Philippines. She is the daughter of singer Sharon Cuneta. She is also the main endorser of Palmolive Shampoo in the Philippines. Indeed, KC is a beautiful young girl, but that is not the reason that I wanted a bottle of Palmolive Shampoo! But, still, I’ve never heard the end of it from Feyma for a number of years now.
Now, a while back I was watching a local TV show and they had a commercial for Head & Shoulders shampoo. I mentioned something to Feyma about Head & Shoulders. The celebrity endorser for Head & Shoulders locally is Angel Locsin, who is quite a good looking young actress here. Well, a few days later Feyma showed up from the grocery store with a bottle of Head & Shoulders for me. Sure enough, she accused me of having moved on from KC Concepcion to Angel Locsin.
Well, I have to admit, I do kind of fancy Angel… but that’s another story!
I’ve never chosen product based on who endorses them…. I better just stop with that, or I’ll be in even more trouble with Feyma. 😉
Darin Collins
Yeah, I would suggest going with a brand endorsed by some guy, but then she might take it the wrong way too. So you might want to research your products endorser first and pick the ugliest one you can find. Manny Pacquiao needs to endorse a shampoo then maybe she will be ok with it. 😀
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… you know, as I think about it, I can’t think of a single shampoo endorsed by a man!
Hudson
useless trivia…
Ringo Star endorsed Breck shampoo
MindanaoBob
Now, that I did not know! Not sure it would sway me to use Breck though!
Papa Duck
Bob,
NFL Football player Troy Polamalu endorses Head and Shoulders. If you see his hair you will know why. Please try to stay on Mrs Feyma’s good side. Have a nice day!
MindanaoBob
I just looked up a picture of Troy on the net, Papa Duck. He might need something more industrial than Head & Shoulders. Hmm… I wonder if Troy and Angel have met each other? 😉
jonathan
Try Clear Bob, it’s endorsed by Piolo Pascual lol among its male endorsers
MindanaoBob
Don’t care for the stuff…. the endorsers don’t do anything for me! 😉
Jonathan
Ha, ha! I know right? What’s with men endorsers of shampoos? Lol.
MindanaoBob
Exactly, Jonathan!
taga davao ko
manny pacquiao is actually a head and shoulders endorser in the philippines!
MindanaoBob
Manny does not want any dandruff to be flying around in the ring when he is in the middle of destroying his opponent! 😉
Rich321 (Rich Bowen)
Bob, that’s funny as hell! I don’t think you can win that battle.
For me, I don’t have a clue as to who endorses the shampoo, or more precisely, body wash I use. When you are about 50% bald, who needs a shampoo? I just take a “full” shower, and try to use a body wash that does not have an over-powering smell — I don’t want to smell it the rest of the day.
MindanaoBob
Hi Rich – Actually, the whole shampoo thing is more of a joke in our house… Feyma just teases me, but she really is not upset about it.
Paul
If you like I can get you their autographs. I have contacts in that World. Autograph note goes something Like this. “Oh Bob, I am so glad I could give you such good head” signed Angel. Would that work LOL. Can you spell divorce. Just being funny. No offense intended to you or Feyma.
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… I don’t need those autographs, Paul, but thanks for offering!
Jim
Hi Bob – Have you ever tried the brand ‘Gee your hair smells terrific’, A friend of mine who was with me in Nigeria and formerly worked in the Philippines asked me to bring back a bottle of this shampoo in the mid 80’s. The reason being that no one believed him that there was such a shampoo on the market. Neither did I to be honest but my wife Marilou knew better and we did purchase a bottle and took it back with us. He cleaned up on all his bets and made a tidy sum as a result. Only in the Philippines could such a brand be launched.
Regards.
Jim.
MindanaoBob
Hi Jim – Believe it or not… I own GeeYourHairSmellsTerrific.com and used to have a very thriving business there. However, a few years back, Vibelle Manufacturing, the Philippine authorized producer stopped making Gee Shampoo. I have a long, long story of how I got into that business.
brian
I’ve had the pleasure of hearing it Bob and its not only comical how it came to be but very shrewed as well Kudos’ on that one !!!!
MindanaoBob
That’s right, I forgot that we talked about that, brian. It is almost an unbelievable story!
Biz Doc
hi bob,
sounds like a good lead for a new writeup! looking forward to your story on how you went into that business, and how it fared hehe ” )
cheers,
MindanaoBob
Well, I may or may not write about it, Biz Doc. It is an amazing story, though.
MindanaoBob
BTW, Gee was not launched in the Philippines. Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific Shampoo was produced by a US company, Jergens. They licensed the product for Philippine Production to Vibelle Manufacturing, back in the late 70’s.
roy
I remember my childhood in the 70s using those shampoo and of course using that cheesy line “Gee, your hair smells…terrifYING!”
MindanaoBob
Hi roy – Nice to hear from you, it’s been a while! I hope you are doing well.
I can remember some of the Gee commercials from when I was a kid, but I never heard the “terrifying” one! 😉
maria
hi bob
head and shoulders shampoo the original version is very good to use on dogs with skin issues. i spent $$$$ going to vet for my dog with no results—got sick of giving him $$$$$ and just tried the head and shoulders on dog and it worked.
MindanaoBob
Hi maria – Thanks for the tip!
Tom Ramberg
Hi Bob,
I have a shampoo related misfortune I guess. While watching television with Marie there was a commercial for Pantene. Chris Aquino is the spokesman. She announced that the shampoo was her secret. I created a sacrilege when I suggested that high powered skin whitener and blue contacts might be her secret. It was as if I had questioned the sincerety of Mother Teresa. Fortunately I feel time will correct my tendency to blurt out humorous observations. Unfortunately this will probably occur two years after my death!
MindanaoBob
Hi Tom – ha ha.. good one, Tom. I have never really been a fan of Kris Aquino anyway…. 😉
John Miele
“Gee KC, How do you stay so YOUNG!
Hee hee hee… It’s Palmolive and I FEEL young!”
Or
My theory is that she’s only like, 25 or 26.
God, I hate that dopey commercial… They must play it on every channel 15 times per hour!
MindanaoBob
Just hit the mute button, John. At least the view is nice! 😉
JohnM
According to the Master of the Manor (and it ain’t me), I am officially blind! 😉
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… you don’t know what you’re missing, John! 😉
Seriously, though, Feyma is pretty good about this kind of thing. She is not bothered if I say that “such and such” girl is hot or whatever. She has good self confidence and is not bothered by that sort of nonsense.
Tom Ramberg
So when they say that love is blind they really mean that married men are required to be blind. I guess I am lucky because Marie has a background with models so she admires a beautiful woman and will on occasion point one out. When we were newly married five years ago she did this and I thought it was a test. I can point out a person and comment how nice the hair is and we will discuss it together. In my twenty year marriage before my eyes must remain at the ground in an obedient fashion. haha!
MindanaoBob
That’s how Feyma is… if she thinks a woman is good looking, she will always point it out to me.. if I don’t beat her to it, of course!
Darin Collins
My wife needs to hang out with Feyma more. If I am caught even thinking of speaking to another woman I am in deep doodoo.
MindanaoBob
I think it is a sign of a mature relationship, Darin.
Ricardo Sumilang
I have never seen a Filipino commercial on TV, because I have never subscribed to Filipino TV in my entire life in the U.S. It’s just as well, because I think I would be irritated, too. But based on what I am reading frequently from readers’ observations about Filipino celebrities in showbiz, who most often are chosen to represent a product, I get the impression that there is a certain irritating vainness about some of them. It doesn’t help that Filipino ads, in my opinion, have not yet reached the degree of sophistication of Western advertising in that the former, in its single-mindedness to overemphasize solely the cosmetic beauty of the spokesperson peddling the product in an attempt to brainwash the consumer to identify with such spokesperson, may not realize that such a strategy could backfire. There is a perception, however, that Filipino consumers in general are easily swayed the way advertisers want them to be swayed simply by accentuating a positive image of the spokesperson and by promoting a false illusion of achieving beauty through the use of the product being marketed. In this regard, I think the basic principle of Philippine advertising is NEVER to project a less-than-flattering image of the spokesperson (Kris Aquino?), however irritating that is. Western advertising, on the other hand, have been quite successful in the use of self-deprecating humor, a method that may be unheard of in Philippine advertising. A good example of self-deprecating humor in advertising are GEICO ads. Because of their entertaining value, they do keep your attention riveted on the TV screen during commercial breaks.
MindanaoBob
Ricardo – Given the fact that you said you had never seen a Philippine TV commercial before, you have certainly built up strong opinions about them.
Ricardo Sumilang
You are absolutely correct, Bob. This is what I said: “But based on what I am reading frequently from readers’ observations about Filipino celebrities in showbiz…”
Katrina
I would not single out the Philippines. It’s pretty much Asia wide. Reinforcing it furthermore is the Korean pop culture craze in the Philippines.
In many ways, Filipino CTV can be better than US commercials like Geico, AT&T, Jack in the Box, etc.
McDonald’s Philippines has lots of good commercials. You can find them in youtube. And FITA and Coca Cola Philippines, too. They reflect Filipino culture and not just about “artistas”. Actually, they made “artistas” out of the unknown commercial models.

Coming from a guy who never seen a Filipino advertisement, I totally disagree with you Ricardo. There’s a lot of local advertisement that has taste and not only dependent on its endorsers (i.e. good looking people) and you can’t find them all in TFC or Pinoy TV or in any Pinoy channel you have there. Try coming home and watch it on locally aired free-tv.
Ricardo Sumilang
Your point is well taken, Jonathan. It’s true I haven’t seen enough Filipino ads to to come up with the conclusion I made. As I pointed out, though, my observation was based strictly on readers’ comments I’ve read in the past. On this post alone, if you are patient enough to go over the comments, you will find at least 3 comments that reenforced that mistaken belief,
Paul
What if you were bald? 😆
MindanaoBob
I guess then I’d just enjoy the commercials and not buy the shampoo! Ha ha
brian
WOW she is a hottie!!!
MindanaoBob
ha ha…. 😉
Lordvito9
i have,for a while,been accused of having a crush on angel locsin.I have denied it….strenously….
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… I think we all have, Lordvito9!
Dave Starr
I enjoy the commercials, as much as I enjoy any commercials. At least their better than having to watch the “First Sister”, whom I detest.
But what I enjoy even more is Mita’s stories about KC’s mom, the Mega Star (no relation) and in particular, her dad … wow does he have a checkered past.
What chismis there is here in the Philippines.
For John and the other smoker’s among us, have you heard that Kris is currently working on some new commercials for PAL’s answer to their profitability woes?
They are introducing a new First Class smoking section for Trans-Pacific flights. Yep you can’t smoke on the streets in Davao or Makati, but you can smoke on PAL flights again* after all these years.
I wonder if President Obama will consider using PAL for any of his long flights instead of Air Force One?
*(note, certain eligibility rules apply, currently limited to elected presidents only)
JohnM
You know, Dave, I’ve never really minded the non-smoking flights… After all, you are in a sealed pressurized tube and there is really nowhere for others to go in order to get away from smoke. Gotta love the “smoking in the lavatories is dangerous” line they give… Funny, it wasn’t dangerous over the previous 60 years smoking was allowed onboard. There was a German Airline that tried to start up, offering 100% smoking flights, but they went bust after only one flight (It was exclusively Germany – China flights… both heavy smoking destinations)
What really bothers me about it is the airports, like Heathrow, that have totally banned smoking, even separate enclosed rooms. After a 12 hour flight from Asia, I wanna light up, and at Heathrow (and most US airports, for that matter), you must go outside (if I have a long connection, it is a real drag). The UK has proclaimed itself “smoke free”, but they (and the US, for that matter) certainly don’t mind the $8 or so per pack in taxes that they collect. Hypocrisy at its’ finest!
marjorie
Hi John. Do gooders rule the UK. I am surprised we are allowed to breathe, in case we breathe in something noxious lol.
It is nice to eat without someone blowing smoke near your food, but some of the rules have gone OTT.
MindanaoBob
Wow, a smoking section? That is amazing to me.
Tony
I would suggest shaving your head, it might be safer.
MindanaoBob
Ha ha.. maybe I need a body guard?
Allan Kelly
Bob, you dog! , All kidding aside, isn’t it amazing how we can get into trouble with our spouses for what they think we are thinking?
MindanaoBob
Actually, it’s really just a joke between Feyma and I. She just teases me, doesn’t give me any trouble. 😉
Katrina
Better shift to Clean and Clear. Their commercial have male and female models
MindanaoBob
I’ve tried that stuff… didn’t like it though. Must be those pesky male models.
Clem Demmitt
You need a shampoo endorsed by an ugly actress. That might be hard to find. LOL!
MindanaoBob
Ha ha…. I like my palmolive! 😉

It didn’t take me long to learn that a wise man will put the TV on mute when watching the Spanish Channel when the Wife is in the kitchen cooking.
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… you mean to tell me that Angel Locsin is appearing on the Spanish Channel too? 😉
Gary Wigle
I have looked at all the comments and I didn’t find this one Bob. All you have to say is “Just because I am on a diet doesn’t mean I can’t look at the menu.” Aww forget it, didn’t work for me. 🙂
MindanaoBob
Ha ha.. Feyma doesn’t matter if I study the menu, Gary, as long as I don’t sample the offerings. 😉
Robert
Good you mentioned Kris Aquino and Sharon Cunetta…
I can never get enough of those two… aren’t they marvelous?
Even though they advertise any garbage they can get money from, they are simply out of this world.
Women with character with sexy curvy figures with crowds of admirers.
One thing is for sure I get my fix watching them advertise every day at least one bezillion times.
Magic Sinigang, to all of you secret admirers of these fabulous women of substance, here on LIP.
taga davao ko
hahahah this is kind of cute! 🙂 then maybe you’ll shift to PANTENE and have a crush on angelica panganiban! LOL
MindanaoBob
Kumusta ka, taga davao? I am always willing to try any shampoos as long as the spokesmodel is sexy. 😉 ha ha
Ben Lido
If I am not wrong, Manny Pacquiao the boxer endorse both Panteen, Rejoice and Head and Shoulder……some very good shampoos…… Bob you can now live on the safe side. Happy Shampooing!
MindanaoBob
Those girls look a lot nicer than Manny though, Ben! 😆
