Well, the day is finally here!  I have been talking about this day for the past couple of weeks now and it has finally arrived!  Today, we are launching the totally new Live in the Philippines Web Magazine it is the Web Magazine for ex-pats in the Philippines and those who want to join them!  I hope you like the new format!  I know that I do!  Of course, anytime you make big changes, not everybody will like it, and I am prepared for that. If you don’t like something about it, leave a comment, and if it is something that I agree needs changing, I will greatly appreciate your tip, and we’ll make the change!

If you are looking at this in the first few hours after launch, of course there are some things that are still being ironed out, fixed or whatever.  If you see a bug in the site and it doesn’t disappear in the next 12 hours or so, please leave a comment to let us know, so that we can check it out.  I assure you that we are working hard to make sure that this transition is as smooth as it can be!

    Congrats on the site. I like it and it's very easy to navigate around.

    I've been meaning to send you this link, but it seems too late now. A popular ESPN columnist who I read a lot recently redeisgned his column page with separate video and link sections (also a podcast interview section).

    Not exaclty the same format as you, but I thought it would have helped given you or the other writers ideas.

It's OK about the ESPN thing, I had found a number of sites that I liked and molded features from each one into what we have here. I feel pretty good about what we cam up with, although we'll be ironing out minor things for the next few days, i am sure of that!

    Elena loves her photo in Feymas section, now I guess I will need to put in the 3 Buddah in Buda. LOL

  17. Hi Bruce – Thanks for the nice words! I am glad you like it! I designed much of it, a new employee of mine (Randi) did the coding to produce what I wanted, and I got input from several friends. It was a team effort!

  18. Wow, I really like the magazine-like design of this website, Bob. Congratulations, nice work here.

    Although In versions 6.0 of IE this site's design is scattered (as I am viewing now from my office). I'd better look at this one later in Firefox (thanks for that info before that you're using that as your browser, I've been an avid fan of Firefox too ever since). 🙂

  20. Hi Jio and everybody reading – Thanks Jio for telling me about the problem in IE6. I have done some checking and we are now aware that the page does not render well on Internet Explorer version 6 and below. If you are using Version 7 of Internet Explorer, it looks great. Firefox is great too. We will be working on fixing the site for IE6 and below tomorrow when the web developer is back again. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

    I was just trying to navigate around the different posts and noticed your comment. Yes, please, I would like our smileys back! After all, they're part of this community. 😉

    I really like the new format, Bob! Now, this is waaaaay kewl! LOL! Yeah, if you could please darken the text on this comment box. It will help us, vision-impaired folks, to find the typos. LOL!

    One thing, Bob, I use Firefox 2.0.0.6. The old link did not redirect. I got on IE7 and found the new URL there, pasted it on Firefox. Voila! Other folks using Firefox might be wondering what happened to your site…

    Congratulations, Bob! Well done! I was just thinking, if I was in Davao, we could have done an emagazine launching party. Well, we can still do it next time I visit, right?

  23. Hi Tina – Thanks for your comments! I'm glad that you like it. Hmm… I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3 and everything redirects fine! I'll have to check into that. It doesn't surprise me that there are a few glitches – this was a major upgrade to the site, so a few glitches are to be expected, I guess!

    Tina – I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.6 too, it worked first time for me. Bob probably fixed it already.

  36. Hi Lea and Bruce – I would love to fix this. Only problem that I have is that there are hundreds or thousands of lower case “p’s” on the site, and I don’t know which one you guys are talking about. Since none of them overlap on my computer, I need a little more specific info, if possible. I really don’t know how else I can find it.

  38. Bob – it’s in the homepage – actually it’s only the tail of the “p”s in the Live in the Philippines. They’re overlapping the caption underneath it.

  39. Bob – Another thing I noticed – no # (1,2…35) in responses. For example Jack's response should have been #1… so on and so forth.

  42. Bob-This website is fantastic, I love the pictures, the videos are also fabulous. Its like getting correspondence from a good friend. What a great insite into the area.My wife is also from the Philippines, we have been married 16 years,we live in Canada.Im ashamed to say that I have never gone back with her for a vist, too busy working,but that has allowed me early retirement. Now things have changed. I must say your website has certainly changed my view of the philippines, maybe you should become a good-will Ambassador for the country. Bob you and your wife are doing a great job,keep up the good work.

    I just noticed, on the home page, you might want to lower the text onder the title a little, the lower case "P"' is covering the text. It look better on your header

    Hi Bruce – Not exactly sure where you are seeing that…. I have looked around and can't find any lower case "p" that is overlapping. Maybe I am just missing something? Of course, it looks different on every version of every browser, so it's hard to say! Thanks for letting me know, though.

  46. Bob – I am using a laptop right now, and Bruce is right that the lower case "p" in Philippines ovelapped a little bit with the caption below. However, awhile ago, when I was using a PC, it wasn't like that. So, I'm not sure use if it's the Internet Explorer or what. As you said, I guess it varies on every version.

  60. Hi tommy – right now we are just offering a separate RSS feed for each column on the site. Offering an RSS feed for the entire site is something we will look at, though. Thanks for the suggestion.

  63. Hi marygrace and Rey – I think that the reason why Rey asked about your blog was because I said that I had posted a comment about your photos of your daughter. I was not clear, Rey… what I meant was that marygrace has posted some photos of her daughter here on the Live in the Philippines Photo Gallery and I posted a comment there! Just look up in the navigation area in the header, and click on "Photo Gallery" then you will find MaryGrace's photo album there! Sorry for the confusion.

  66. Bob, LIP's new look is gorgeous! Everything—the writing, the photos are so crisp and clear. My old eyes are enjoying every bit of this. I loved going through the photo gallery now with BIG pictures. I feel that I am there in Mindanao. The things you photograph can be found nowhere else and the captions are truly informative. I love seeing the everyday scenes of life of the beautiful people in their beautiful country. That blessed archipelago that lives in our souls, paradise Philippines.
    I thank you and Feyma and your team for affording me the opportunity to vicariously visit this place and to learn so much, especially the people here at LIP who give so generously, sharing their experiences.
