Well, the day is finally here! I have been talking about this day for the past couple of weeks now and it has finally arrived! Today, we are launching the totally new Live in the Philippines Web Magazine it is the Web Magazine for ex-pats in the Philippines and those who want to join them! I hope you like the new format! I know that I do! Of course, anytime you make big changes, not everybody will like it, and I am prepared for that. If you don’t like something about it, leave a comment, and if it is something that I agree needs changing, I will greatly appreciate your tip, and we’ll make the change!
If you are looking at this in the first few hours after launch, of course there are some things that are still being ironed out, fixed or whatever. If you see a bug in the site and it doesn’t disappear in the next 12 hours or so, please leave a comment to let us know, so that we can check it out. I assure you that we are working hard to make sure that this transition is as smooth as it can be!
Again, welcome to the new site!
Jack
Cool Bob
Congrats, nice site
Bob
Hi Jack,
Thank you very much! I appreciate your thoughts!
Jim
Hi Bob- I like the format very professional.
All the best.
Bob
Hi Jim – Thanks for sharing your opinion! What you think is important to me!
Jim
Hi Bob – Almost forgot. http://journals.aol.co.uk/jcjimc/BethanyChristian…
Don't forget my link to my Bethany journal please.
marygrace
Hi Bob – finally !!! Congratulations – good luck – and i really like it! (for those who are first timers to visit) am sure they will be tempted to visit again!
Bob
Hi Jim – I'll add your link!
Hi marygrace – I'm glad you like the site! I just looked at your photos and left comments on the two pictures of your daughter!
anthony
WOW This is different! Like it already. Have recomended people to your site previously, but sure to recomend more in the future. Congrats and best wishes from Gold Coast Australia
Bob
Thanks anthony! We always like it when new folks visit! I'm glad that you like the site!
Rey
Really nice Bob! Cool and slick! But can you make the text color on the comment box a little darker?
Marygrace you have a blog too? Would you mine giving me your site?
Bob
Hi Rey – Yeah, I was already thinking of that myself. It's too light right now, I had not noticed that before.
Marilou
Hi Bob – Congratulations on the launch of the Live in the Phiippines Web Magazine for Expats in the Philippines and well done to your hard work and dedication.
Bob
Hi Marilou – Thanks! I appreciate you sharing your opinion!
macky
HI Bob,
Congrats on the site. I like it and it's very easy to navigate around.
I've been meaning to send you this link, but it seems too late now. A popular ESPN columnist who I read a lot recently redeisgned his column page with separate video and link sections (also a podcast interview section).
Not exaclty the same format as you, but I thought it would have helped given you or the other writers ideas.
Anyway, it's a little late now but oh well … http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/simmons/inde…
Bob
Hi macky – I'm glad that you like it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's OK about the ESPN thing, I had found a number of sites that I liked and molded features from each one into what we have here. I feel pretty good about what we cam up with, although we'll be ironing out minor things for the next few days, i am sure of that!
Bruce
Bob,
The new Magazine looks great, I love the home page and the tabs.
Elena loves her photo in Feymas section, now I guess I will need to put in the 3 Buddah in Buda. LOL
Continue the great work.
Bob
Hi Bruce – Thanks for the nice words! I am glad you like it! I designed much of it, a new employee of mine (Randi) did the coding to produce what I wanted, and I got input from several friends. It was a team effort!
Jio
Wow, I really like the magazine-like design of this website, Bob. Congratulations, nice work here.
Although In versions 6.0 of IE this site's design is scattered (as I am viewing now from my office). I'd better look at this one later in Firefox (thanks for that info before that you're using that as your browser, I've been an avid fan of Firefox too ever since). 🙂
Cheryll Ann
BEAUTIFUL!!! The new look is gorgeous!
Very easy to navigate too.
Bob
Hi Jio and everybody reading – Thanks Jio for telling me about the problem in IE6. I have done some checking and we are now aware that the page does not render well on Internet Explorer version 6 and below. If you are using Version 7 of Internet Explorer, it looks great. Firefox is great too. We will be working on fixing the site for IE6 and below tomorrow when the web developer is back again. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi Cheryll Ann – Thanks for letting me know! I'm glad that you like the new style of the site!
Bob
Oh, one other thing for everybody (especially Tina!) – I know you guys are going to want the smiley faces back again! We'll be adding that again as soon as time allows.
Tina
Hey Bob,
I was just trying to navigate around the different posts and noticed your comment. Yes, please, I would like our smileys back! After all, they're part of this community. 😉
I really like the new format, Bob! Now, this is waaaaay kewl! LOL! Yeah, if you could please darken the text on this comment box. It will help us, vision-impaired folks, to find the typos. LOL!
One thing, Bob, I use Firefox 2.0.0.6. The old link did not redirect. I got on IE7 and found the new URL there, pasted it on Firefox. Voila! Other folks using Firefox might be wondering what happened to your site…
Congratulations, Bob! Well done! I was just thinking, if I was in Davao, we could have done an emagazine launching party. Well, we can still do it next time I visit, right?
Bob
Hi Tina – Thanks for your comments! I'm glad that you like it. Hmm… I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3 and everything redirects fine! I'll have to check into that. It doesn't surprise me that there are a few glitches – this was a major upgrade to the site, so a few glitches are to be expected, I guess!
Thanks for the pointers, Tina!
Lea
Bob – Congratulations! I've been meaning to ask when's the launching, I was surprised when I clicked then link. Nice!
Tina – I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.6 too, it worked first time for me. Bob probably fixed it already.
Lea
Bob – one thing I noticed though, no more dates for our comments/reply. Is that something that you're going to add?
Ron LaFleur
Bob I like it-better than I anticipated. Ron
Angel
You did a great job. CONGRATULATIONS.
Gladys
Hi Boss,
Congrats on this new portal. So pretty!!! Say hi to Maam Feym.
Bob
Hi Lea – Interesting that your Firefox forwarded and Tina's did not! I actually have made no changes! Hmm…. I'm glad that you like the new format! I have added to my list of needed fixes the "date/time" for comments.
Hi Ron – Great news! I'm glad that it turned out better than you expected!
Hi Angel – Thank you kindly!
Hi Gladys – Thank you so much! I'll pass along your greeting to Feyma too! I'm glad that you like the new Magazine format!
Tina
Hi Bob,
It works now! Don' t know what changed???
Technology – who knows? As long as it works, I'm happy! 🙂

Hi bob congrats for and welcome the new live in philippines
of web magazine it's very nice I like the new style also
I like very much this colour blue sky for the letter and for coments. Braboooooooooooo Bob. Bob after maby you find something different you put. Good luck for new live.
regards
Bob
Hi Lea and Bruce – I would love to fix this. Only problem that I have is that there are hundreds or thousands of lower case “p’s” on the site, and I don’t know which one you guys are talking about. Since none of them overlap on my computer, I need a little more specific info, if possible. I really don’t know how else I can find it.
Thanks!
Pangga
Well done Bob congrats!!
Lea
Bob – it’s in the homepage – actually it’s only the tail of the “p”s in the Live in the Philippines. They’re overlapping the caption underneath it.
Lea
Bob – Another thing I noticed – no # (1,2…35) in responses. For example Jack's response should have been #1… so on and so forth.
Tim Payne
Very nice site. Might want to change the color of the type in the comment box. ( I know everyones a critic, lol) All in all my sincere gratitude for all your efforts. Warm reguards.
Paul
Wow. Finally see the finish product – even this crotchety old man is positively impressed. 😀
steve sapinsky
Bob-This website is fantastic, I love the pictures, the videos are also fabulous. Its like getting correspondence from a good friend. What a great insite into the area.My wife is also from the Philippines, we have been married 16 years,we live in Canada.Im ashamed to say that I have never gone back with her for a vist, too busy working, but that has allowed me early retirement. Now things have changed. I must say your website has certainly changed my view of the philippines, maybe you should become a good-will Ambassador for the country. Bob you and your wife are doing a great job, keep up the good work.
Bruce
Bob,
I just noticed, on the home page, you might want to lower the text onder the title a little, the lower case "P"' is covering the text. It look better on your header
Luz
Hi Bob
Wow! What a beautiful format. The lay out, design and the combinations of colors are very nice. I like it. Congrats Bob! Good work.
Bob
Hi Steve – Thanks for your nice comments about the site! I'm glad that you like it. I'm glad also that I've been able to give you a little positive spin on the Philippines! If you make it over for a visit, look me up!
Hi Bruce – Not exactly sure where you are seeing that…. I have looked around and can't find any lower case "p" that is overlapping. Maybe I am just missing something? Of course, it looks different on every version of every browser, so it's hard to say! Thanks for letting me know, though.
Hi Luz – I'm glad that you like the new site!
Lea
Bob – I am using a laptop right now, and Bruce is right that the lower case "p" in Philippines ovelapped a little bit with the caption below. However, awhile ago, when I was using a PC, it wasn't like that. So, I'm not sure use if it's the Internet Explorer or what. As you said, I guess it varies on every version.
Bob
Hi Lea – Thanks for that. It's another issue with Internet Explorer version 6, which is something that we are currently working on.
Rose
I love your blog and congratulations!
Rose
I just found your blog yesterday and I got addicted reading all the notes/stories and comments, please keep them coming! We are planning to move/live there in a couple of years, we are from Pampanga! I'm so envious of Feyma, you guys have it made there! I'd like to have my own farm!
ken
hi bob , very nice job ,i like it a lot
Wade
Hello Bob,
On the surface this is a very pleasant surprise. I hope to take a closer look in the coming days. Good job!
Teng
Hi Bob,
It's going to be more exciting to visit and read your Blog and other Bloggers.
Well Done, Bob, Congratulations!
Bob
Hi Rose – Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it!
Hi Rose (#2?) – I'm glad you found the site! I keep hearing from people that it is addicting! I hope that you don't go into withdrawals! Ha ha… seriously, enjoy the site, and keep contributing to make it even more interesting!
Hi Wade – I'm glad that this surprise was a pleasant one!
He Teng – Thank you also!
Alistair
Love, the brilliant new look… I'm sure you will encourage even more readership with this style. Although I don't comment too much on here I do find all the posts from everyone concerned of interest… Well done and keep up the good work.
Bob
Hi Alistair – Thanks for the thumbs up! We are steadily making improvements and fixing bugs that pop up! We should get it mostly finished up by Monday, I'd say. 😛
Luz
Hi Bob!
Just a suggestion. How about numerating the comments like the old one. Don't you like it anymore? Thanks.
Bob
Hi Luz – We are working on that. I had my man put numbering yesterday, but I was not happy with the results. He will work again on Monday.
Jonathan
Is there still a way to get an rss feed of the whole site? The old feed doesn't work anymore.
tommy
NICE Bob ! Clear crisp and easy to read I like it 🙂
Bob
Hi tommy – right now we are just offering a separate RSS feed for each column on the site. Offering an RSS feed for the entire site is something we will look at, though. Thanks for the suggestion.
marygrace
Hello BOb – just want to reply to Rey
REY, am still working on my blogsite..will keep you posted about it.
What’s your email ad? (Thanks bob)
Charles
Refreshing , Wonderful !!!
Congradulations & God Bless
Bob
Hi marygrace and Rey – I think that the reason why Rey asked about your blog was because I said that I had posted a comment about your photos of your daughter. I was not clear, Rey… what I meant was that marygrace has posted some photos of her daughter here on the Live in the Philippines Photo Gallery and I posted a comment there! Just look up in the navigation area in the header, and click on "Photo Gallery" then you will find MaryGrace's photo album there! Sorry for the confusion.
Charles
Refreshing , Woderful !!!
Congradulations & God Bless
Bob
Hi Charles – Thanks for stopping by! I'm very happy to know that you like the new Live in the Philippines Web Magazine!
Karen
Bob, LIP's new look is gorgeous! Everything—the writing, the photos are so crisp and clear. My old eyes are enjoying every bit of this. I loved going through the photo gallery now with BIG pictures. I feel that I am there in Mindanao. The things you photograph can be found nowhere else and the captions are truly informative. I love seeing the everyday scenes of life of the beautiful people in their beautiful country. That blessed archipelago that lives in our souls, paradise Philippines.
I thank you and Feyma and your team for affording me the opportunity to vicariously visit this place and to learn so much, especially the people here at LIP who give so generously, sharing their experiences.
Salamat po,
Karen
Bob
Hi Karen – I'm glad that the new format is easy on your eyes! We worked hard to make it easy and comfortable to read, even for people getting a little older (like ME!).
shirralyn
