Over a month or so ago now Bob and I started that all of us in the house will eat breakfast together. We were thinking of dinner, but some of the kids in the house will be going home late because of school. So the dinner together idea is off the table for now. We know that all of us will be here during morning so that’s one of the reasons why we started the morning routine for all of us. Really at first Bob and I were just thinking that we will have the breakfast routine just during weekdays. But, by the middle of the first week we talked to the kids if they want to still do the breakfast? Everybody said that they want to do it daily. So we have breakfast everyday now. Only thing during weekends we are flexible with the hours.
During weekdays we do our breakfast early morning usually before 6:30, since the kids go to school early. During weekends we will eat no later than 8:30. If I’m making muffins I usually get up a little early. Sometimes my niece Glenda will make garlic rice, the kids like it a lot with sausage or the nuclear dogs ( ha ha ha). Jean helps with the cooking. She’s been cooking some muffins too. It seems to be a routine now to wake up early. I don’t even have to go to their room. She just wakes up by herself and helps out. Sometimes they go to the market early or the day before to buy fruits.
Sometimes me and one of the kids go for a walk early to buy bread at the bakery here. Good freshly baked bread (pandesal especially). It’s so yummy. Sometimes we buy muffins at S & R. It’s like the muffin made from Costco. Very good. Here’s some of the foods we eat in the morning: Fruits (mango, banana, pineapple, pomelo, papaya, marang and many others). Cereals, banana muffins/bread, pancakes, waffles, baked french toast, garlic rice, regular rice, eggs (poach, boiled, fried), Hormel breakfast sausage, Johnsonville breakfast sausage, bacon, ham, hash brown, homemade Challah bread, homemade bread, biscuits and many others too. Our foods were suggested by everybody. We always have a few selections of foods in the morning in-case other people in the house don’t want the other food being served. We also have coffee, tea and other drinks. Really our breakfast, its a combination of Filipino and American dishes.
It’s really good to be together with the kids in the morning. We decided to eat at our porch, it seems cooler there in the morning. Really its good to be with the kids catching up with what they are doing everyday. The kids and nieces seems to be enjoying it too. We would not have done it if we are not all enjoying to be together. Even our helpers she eats with us. Ever since Bob and I lived here in the Philippines we always had our helpers eat with us.
All in all I’m so happy preparing the food for my family everyday. Something for all of us to enjoy and bond. I had a feeling that my kids might continue on this tradition too later with their respective families.
Have Fun Eating!!!

Thank you Feyma for a great article on having breakfasts as a family. Our sons are college age but still live with us. Our schedules are different; some leave the house at 5:30, others after 7:00 so we hardly have breakfast together now. But we try to make Saturdays and Sundays special by having big breakfasts, with all the works! Pancakes, home baked bread, garlic rice, fruits in season, Spam, hotdogs, longanisa, and fried or scrambled fresh eggs from our very own happy chickens. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.
Feyma
Hi Steve – I’m glad you liked my post. That’s also good schedule you have there with you family during weekends. Good list you have there too for you guys breakfast.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. Highly appreciated.
Cheers!
Tito Joe
what is that rolled item in the lower left conver of the first picture. THAT looks yummy!
Also have to say I agree on the family breakfast thing I have done it for decades now. Even when I visit we all MUST eat breakfast at the same time. After that its every man, woman and beast for themselves the rest of the day…unless we PLAN a special sit down dinner.
Feyma
Hi Tito Joe – Ha ha ha… That’s chocolate role. We’ve been wanting to buy it again because Bob’s been wanting to taste it but they are out of it right now. Dang it.
***MUST eat breakfast at the same time. After that its every man, woman and beast for themselves the rest of the day…*** — SAME THINKING HERE!!!
*** we PLAN a special sit down dinner.*** — WE ALWAYS HAVE SPECIAL DINNER WITH SPECIAL OCCASIONS like birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas & other holidays.
Good to see you here. Have a great day!

Feyma, just let me have pandesal and sardines sauteed in garlic and onions and coffee to wash it all down, and you can have the rest. Thank you. LOL
Feyma
Hi John – Pandesal is really good especially when its just came out from the oven. On our pandesal we like it with peanut butter or with sandwich spread or fried egg. You can have the pandesal with sardines John, ha ha ha… It must be regional. When I used to lived in Manila my sister-in-law who’s from Pampanga eats pandesal like you do.
Have a wonderful day!
Lenny
Buy some Eden Cheese not the smoked variety….get some Farmers Ham….cook the ham in smaller pieces…set aside….scamble some eggs and pour in pan with melted butter….then add ham and grated cheese…… fold ………………………serve……………………..pretty darn good
Feyma
Hi Lenny – The way you described what you’re cooking is like a ham & cheese omelet. My kids fave especially AJ.
Thank you for sharing your recipe. Have a good breakfast too.
Have a pleasant day!

Sounds like goo quality family time. Congratulations on finding a great way for your family to gather and bond. Now, y’all pass the biscuits and gravy please.
John
Loved the article. I see the corn flakes… But rice for breakfast?! Hahaha!
MindanaoBob
Hey John – I just want to step in here… You obviously are not used to Filipino breakfasts! 😉 Every Filipino eats rice with all 3 meals! Well, at least almost every Filipino does!
brenton
Bob – Any meal with out rice is just not a real meal. Ha ha. Our family used to eat 3 kg of rice a year in Australia. Now it is a bit more. When I tell locals we used to eat 3 kg of rice a year as a family, they give varied looks of surprise.
MindanaoBob
That’s right, brenton. No matter what you eat, it is only a snack unless there is rice!
Feyma
Hi John – The meal is not complete here without the rice. If no rice, they call it a snacks.
Cheers!
AJUK
Give me my wife’s Spanish Eggs every time! Made extra special when sitting on a slice of wholemeal toasted bread.
Feyma
Hi AJUK – Sounds good to me.
Take care!
PapaDuck
Mrs Feyma,
Sounds like a great breakfast! I generally have a rotation of oatmeal, cold cereal, scrambled eggs, buck wheat/whole wheat pancakes, whole wheat bread w/butter and jam and assorted fruits. Mrs Feyma is that an egg casarole in the pyrex dish. Looks good
Feyma
Hi PapaDuck – You had a good going breakfast routine there. Don’t forget the coffee or fresh juice with it. LOL.
*** Mrs Feyma is that an egg casarole in the pyrex dish *** — THAT’S A BAKE FRENCH TOAST… Everybody loves it.
Good to see you here always. Take care and hello to Ann!
Jay
Hi Feyma,
When I visit we split your breakfast into two meals. At about 6 am we have pandesal and mayo or peanut butter with coffee this would ordinarily be the only meal without rice. At about 9 am we have rice and either eggs or some meat like nuclear dogs or fish. I noticed that the people who were working would only eat the first meal and maybe some leftover from dinner the night before. I think the only ones who ate cereal and milk were my kids. Enjoyed reading your article! I guess one of the things I love about visiting the Philippines is that when I am there we eat all our meals as a family since no one in our nuclear family is working or in school while we are there..
Feyma
Hi Jay – Hey that’s a good routine. Most Filipinos eat the rice early and the snacks at 9 am. Yep you are right that some Filipinos eat the left over from dinner for breakfast.
Can’t blame you and family, when in the Philippines it should be on the vacay mode. No other thing to do just relax and enjoy.
Good to see you here again. Cheers!
brenton
Hi Feyma – I often eat puto with chocolate and condensed milk at the local markets most mornings. The locals find it odd for. But I like it. Bit of a routine as well.
Feyma
Hi brenton – Hey, who cares if you like it. Ha ha ha, you might think it’s odd too if you saw them eating something you are not familiar with. LOL
Have fun on your breakfast routine. 🙂
Cheers!

Hi Feyma,
your post brings back memories of the good old days for me were everyone would eat together but if you snoozed you lose because there were 4 boys didn’t happen but a few times sleeping late. Now with my new filipino wife and step daughter it’s usually only on the weekends for breakfast because i leave the house at 3:30am for work. But we do have dinner all together everyday can’t wait to get back to Philippines to see my wife family again being they are great and I just love the Philippines. have a great day!
Feyma
Hi Todd – Ha ha ha… That’s what Bob told the kids if you snoozed you lose. So everyone’s in the table I tell you that. Really they can go back to bed after breakfast. Good going too with the dinner together routine.
I’m sure you guys will be in the Philippines in no time. Take care!
