I have something that I keep in my wallet. Until today, only one person other than me knows about it, and that is Feyma. I’m not even sure if she even remembers about it or not, though she probably does. This is an item that I consider to be a “good luck charm” that I always keep with me. I have had it in my wallet for nearly 17 1/2 years now. I guess I’ve never gone anywhere without it since the first day that I obtained it.
What is it? Well, it is something that I got when I was on my way to meet Feyma for the very first time. It was given to me at the airport in Manila. I had arrived in Manila late in the evening, stayed overnight there, and then flew to Cebu the next morning. This good luck charm of mine is something that was given to me at the Manila Domestic Airport just before I flew to Cebu. Feyma was studying in Cebu at the time, and we had been writing to each other for some time, but had never met. This little item that I keep in my wallet actually enabled me to meet Feyma in person for the first time! And, I do think that this item has brought me good luck. Probably, without this item I would not have experienced some of the greatest joys of my life.
What is it, you ask? Well, it is a Philippine Airlines Boarding Pass, the one that allowed me to board the plane from Manila to Cebu. When I got off the plane in Cebu, Feyma was waiting for me at the airport there in Cebu! So, I guess I got this boarding pass just an hour or two before I met Feyma in person for the very first time. Unless something unexpected happens (lose my wallet, etc), I will keep this boarding pass in my possession until the day that I die. It’s special to me.
By the way, I sat in Seat 28C. The Filipina lady sitting next to me asked me if I was a “Kennedy!”

Back then must have been one of the old DC-10 planes. I don't have my first boarding pass, but I have a "Lord of Pardon" booklet. It's the first gift my wife ever gave me and it's supposed to protect you from harm if you keep it in your wallet.
Klaus
Hi Bob, and, you got a wonderful and special wife. Congrats!!!
Klaus
Hi Bob and Louis, you inspired me for the write up "Amulets and lucky charms", to be read in my blog tomorrow. Thank you guys!
Bob
Hi Louis – As I recall, that was an Airbus plane, although I don't recall the model, though. I think it was my first time to fly on an Airbus too, as back then the American airlines almost exclusively flew Boeing Jets.
Hi Klaus – Thank you very much, and I agree that Feyma is wonderful and special. You didn't do bad yourself, you know! I'll be watching for your column tomorrow.
Louis
The one thing I love about my wife is her maiden name is Jandog… which of course means "Gift" in Bisaya… how true that is.
Bob
Hi Louis – Hmm…. nice!
Cathy
Bob and Louis, you guys are really sweet … and a little melodramatic but really sweet. haha! It is such a blessing to be thought of as a lucky charm or a gift. And really, husbands and wives alike, should take the cue from you.

I had a good luck charm His name is Guido. When I lived in Florida I did a lot of Scuba Diving and Fishing. in 2003 a new neightbor moved into the community. We became friends and I learned he also liked to dive and fish. I had a boat so I invited him out with me on trips with the rest our dive/fish gang. Well everytime he was on the boat with me I got fish and on one occasion a world record Black Grouper. So I think I can consider Guido a good luck charm.
And my current good luck charm is my wife Lynnette. In fact I am about to have my FIRST baby (Alexandra Victoria) at 51 years of age. I never thought I could have kids and most docrtors agreed the chances were remote. Go figure
Bob
Hi Cathy – Ha ha… what is Milper's good luck charm? I haven't heard from him for a while!
Hi Corey – Congratulations on your coming child.

A Kennedy? That's funny and quite random, not to mention very specific.
Louis
My doesn't say I'm melodramatic, just OA whatever that means LOL. Maybe it was all the theatre I took in college. I played Scrooze in "A Christmas Carol" and Pontious Pilate in "Jesus Christ, Superstar".

Lovely story, Bob … I really wish Ii had saved my first boarding pass to the Philippines … t's certainly the best luck I've had in a long, long time.
Bruce
Bob,
I thought it was too corny to say Elena was my "Good Luck Charm" but I think of her as my savior.
When we first fell in love, Elena would say GOD brought us together. I would think, HE put us together for me to bring her to the US and give her a better life.
But we realized with all that has happened to me with the crash in building industry that GOD put is together for Elena to be my Savior and give me a good life by moving and living there.
Brian
Cute story Bob hope it continues to bring you luck.
You should have told the lady if she would like you to drive her to Cebu …not to worry…you have plenty of experince driving over bridges !
Jim
Hi Bob-Like Bruce said about Elena, Marilou is my good luck charm and I try and take her everywhere I go and so far it has worked for me.
Paul
Hi Bob –
SUPERSTITION ALERT: Telling of or explaining your "lucky charm" to others removes the "lucky" and retains the "charm" โ
At least, it's still a wonderful memento. ๐
Bob
Hi Macky – Yep! The lady told me I looked like John F. Kennedy! Go figure!
Hi Louis – OA= Over Acting
Hi Dave Starr – Well, you can consider that boarding pass a "virtual" good luck charm, then. It may be gone physically, but stands in your memory.
Hi Bruce – Nice thoughts, I'm sure Elena appreciates that.
Hi Brian – Thanks for that… not exactly sure what you mean about the bridges, though… ๐
Hi Jim – That's great!
Hi Paul – Hmm… I didn't realize that I was going to be forsaking my good luck!
Brian
Teddy Kennedy does not drive well over birdges….at night…with girl.
Bob
Hi Brian – Ah, OK. The Kennedy thing was not in my mind, so I didn't connect that! Ha ha… the lady thought I looked like John, though… ๐
Brian
lololol….nah she needed glasses …you look like Jerry Seinfeld !!
Bob
Hi Brian – On anther thread, I just commented that I'd refer you to my language tutor here in Davao. Next time you're in town I will personally bring you to my eye doctor! ๐
Marygrace
