Is one week enough time to take in the Philippines? Well, I think most of us would certainly say that in one week you can only scratch the surface of what the Philippines has to offer. A couple of young guys, though, spend one week in the Philippines and produced the video below to share their experience. I would say, based on the video, that these guys pack a lot into a week, and it looks like they had a great time!
One way that you can tell that they missed out on a lot, though, was when they were planning their trip they mentioned that they would be starting out “at Manila, in the South”. Well, Manila is not in the south!
There is a lot to see south of Manila, and in fact, Manila is really part of the north of the country. If you travel the Visayas and Mindanao there are so many subcultures that you can explore and enjoy! It seems that every region or even every locale in the Philippines has a bit different culture than the last one you visited! Even a different language as you travel from town to town!
I really enjoyed this video, especially the parts where children were featured. The children of the Philippines are really cute and a lot of fun. They are generally quite shy, but if you work at it, you can usually get them to come out of their shell and be friendly and engaging!
Hope you enjoyed the video as much as I did!

On my flight to Davao, I was surprised how much more there is south of Manila. My previous visit was only to Luzon and reasonably close to Metro Manila.
I’ve been surprised by the size things on several of my trips.
In the case of the Philippines, pleasantly so.
Thanks for sharing Bob!

Thanks, Byron. I am glad that you enjoyed your trips, and especially that Davao was a pleasant visit for you!

yes, you are correct about cute children! just last sundy evening my fiancee stephanie, her mother and i had dinner at her brother’s home in cebu. her brother does not speak english but his wife does, their youngest son had never seen a white man and was very shy.he also was mad at me because he loves his aunt stephanie very much and i will be her husband in just a few weeks!! so very cute are the children!! i have not viewed the video you commented on though.
i would also like to beg forgiveness for my poor spelling etc… my excuse is i was educated in the american public school system!
MindanaoBob
Hi Leonard. Yep, the kids here are great, I enjoy spending time with them. They seem to enjoy getting “foreigner” attention as well in most cases. I don’t see any spelling errors… so don’t worry about it! 😉

Wyatts Torch Farm
Where is this Manila you speak of ? Is it anything like a CRAZY ?
Wyatts Torch Farm
I meant… Anything like a CR?
Bob Martin
I am happy to not be there, Wyatts. I think a CR is a good description. 😉

I tried a lot of things. What is the best way to learn to speak a Philippine language?
MindanaoBob
Hi Marc – When I learned to speak Cebuano, I hired a local tutor (a real linguist) and took on lesson per week for 4 years. It worked very well for me.
