Over the past couple of weeks we have been following a couple of American guys desperately trying to make a living in the Philippines.
First, two weeks ago they tried driving a Jeepney in Manila, they got some passengers, but it’s a tough way to make money. Truth is, they barely made enough to buy a cold drink.
Last week, they tried driving a Taxi, and could not find a single passenger to ride with them.
This week they are going to try their hand at selling a favorite snack of Filipinos, Taho! Do you think they will succeed in finally finding the right job to keep them from going hungry in the Philippines?
Have a look and see how they did.
Well, it seems that they sold a little Taho, but very little! I don’t think these guys are going to be able to make a living in the Philippines, at least not with the methods that they are trying!
You can make it in the Philippines
If you want to move to the Philippines and don’t want to resort to selling Taho, why not check out my eBook, 49 Ways to make a living in the Philippines?
If you are interested in living in the Philippines, but you need a source of income, getting a job here is generally not the way to go. Firstly, most companies are not looking to hire foreigners. Secondly, you probably won’t want to work for the kind of wages offered here, usually only a few dollars per day.
To help out people like you, I have written a eBook called “49 Ways to earn a living in the Philippines” and I cover ideas of all sorts on how you can earn a good living while living in the Philippines. I have been earning my living here since 2000, and I earn more money now than when I lived in the States. So, I know that I can help you do that too!
As a special offer to you, I am going to offer you $10 off the eBook, but the offer is good for only the next 24 hours. During checkout, just enter the coupon code – 10discountToday – and the eBook will be $10 off the regular price. But, remember, the discount expires after 24 hours.

Hi Bob,
I watched these guys on youtube a while back driving a jeepney. Looks like the same guys. Good humor.
MindanaoBob
Hi Robert – Yeah, same people! Actually, I had their Jeepney driving video on the site two weeks ago, and their taxi driving video last week. They are quite entertaining.
Gary
Ewwww, he didn’t wash his hands. They serve too slow and the ladyboy didn’t like it. Not sweet enough. They need to buy your book Bob. 😛
MindanaoBob
Ha ha… thanks for the plug, Gary. 😉 Hope you are having a good weekend.

I am so touched by the picture of the “real” taho vendor, the Filipino guy. His is the face of utter despair. With his head down looking at the ground and looking like he is about to weep, he must be thinking, “Dios ko po” (My Lord), how can I get out of this grinding poverty? If I see a taho vendor looking like that in my neighborhood in Sta. Mesa, chances are, he will go home that night to his family with a huge lechon manok, ham, queso de bola, and a smile in his face.
MindanaoBob
Nice sentiments, John. You better get the guy two lechon manok, though, because I’ve never seen a “huge” chicken in the Philippines. 😆
Queenie
Hi Bob and John,
Not for nothing, but the chickens that Feyma prepared this past Thanksgiving for your family and friends were pretty huge, as I remember from the photos.:)
MindanaoBob
Sometimes things look bigger in photos than they really are, Queenie! 😉
John Reyes
LOL! Two lechon manok, it will be. I am like you, Bob. I have a soft heart for the poor of the Philippines, just like you. I have helped a lot of people from my province of Zambales. My only regret is, I am not rich enough.
MindanaoBob
🙂 Thanks, John. I honestly don’t know of a better way to get a great feeling than by helping less fortunate people. It gives me great joy. My regret is the same as yours. You can never have enough to give to others.
Brenton
Hi John – Generous people like you always makes people’s lives better. Also I read your website last week. Very interesting work you do to empower the Zambales community.
John Reyes
Thank you, Brenton.
Queenie
Hi Bob,
That’s funny how the one vendor had his own “barker”.. I watched them on a popular Manila news show a while back, and it was said that they were both members of a missionary group.
That’s probably where they got their very good language training–similar to what you learned through Bebe, and what you’re offering now.
See how much fun a good mastery of the language has gotten them so far!
MindanaoBob
I think you are right, Queenie. I believe they are Mormons, doing there service work here, but I am not 100% certain, that is just what I was told. Hope you are doing well.

Hi Bob,
Funny thing is I was joking with my wife about when we move to the Philippines I was going to have to sell Taho. When I called her in here to watch this she nearly beat my arm off laughing and kept saying “Boang!”
MindanaoBob
Ha ha.. maybe we could develop a partnership, Scott! I’ll get the southern territory for taho sales… what area do you want? 😆
PapaDuck
Bob,
Very entertaining. Love seeing the look on the filipinos face when they see Kanos selling Taho. Have a nice day
MindanaoBob
Hi PapaDuck – Can I interest you in some balut? BBBaaaaallllluuuuuut!!! Ha ha…. have a nice weekend!
Jason Smith
Im more of a night owl….. balut balut! honk honk!
Anne
Bob,
My gosh the 2 american guy put down their taho close to men’s public urinal facility,
yuck… then he used to pee there…. hahahaha. but i enjoyed watching the video.
they were really entertained the filipino people. have nice day.
MindanaoBob
Ha ha..I guess he still has a few things to learn! 😉
Todd
Bob,
yea i was going to say something about the urinal he used it and then i didn’t see him wash his hands??????? Now i know their not really trying to make a living there for real but there for some ministry or something because they have been there a while and it didn’t look like they have missed any meals and there clothes still look good as well. Good video of if you think you can be a foreigner and make a living there like the Filipinos have to on a daily bases.
MindanaoBob
Hi Todd – You can definitely make a living in the Philippines, just not in the ways that those guys tried to do it! 😆
Todd
Exactly that’s why i have one of your books! hoping to have a few things brewing before my time to come there. I don’t think i can wait till i retire at 72 !
MindanaoBob
I’ve always got something on the burner, Todd! 😉
Todd
Meaning you can’t make a living being a foreigner there doing that kind of work.
Rex Davao

rex
MindanaoBob
Hi Rex, I have no interest in in eating balut, but I do love eating durian.
Rex Davao
Durian + Coke = Lame kaau. 😀
